The MDBP aims to inform on developments in the Mekong Delta and facilitate matchmaking with parties in Vietnam, the Netherlands or elsewhere. On this page showcases are displayed with similarities including: sustainability, no regret solutions, involvement from the Netherlands somewhere along the value chain and Vietnamese involvement.

Water From Heaven project Water From Heaven is a technology that harvest rainwater and treated with membrane technology to drinking water quality. The innovation can ensure enough storage capacity in the dry season and uses only gravity as energy source. Click here to read more about the technology.

Sat4Rice Sat4Rice (satellite data for rice producers) aims to improve rice production in the whole Mekong Delta, by providing satellite data driven information services. Partners for Water - Integrated Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods In the Mekong Delta, erosion along the riverbanks and coast poses a serious threat to the livelihoods, ecosystem and economic development. In the search for efficient and sustainable solutions, Royal HaskoningDHV has developed an integral view on the advantages and disadvantages of specific solutions, including nature-based solutions. Larive International - ShrimpTech Vietnam ShrimpTechVietnam is a Public-Private-Partnership initiated and coordinated by Larive International. The partnership aims to sustainably improve the current shrimp farming practices in the Mekong Delta by conducting research, offering alternatives for antibiotics and wastewater treatment, demonstrating best practices & sustainable solutions, and training of local farmers. The goal is to enable Vietnamese shrimp farmers to increase their production in a sustainable manner. Click here for more information.

Royal HaskoningDHV - Mekong Delta Integrated Regional Masterplan Royal HaskoningDHV, in cooperation with GIZ, published the Mekong Delta Integrated Regional Master Plan. This World Bank funded plan sets out development orientations and spatial planning across different disciplines in the Mekong Delta to 2030, with a further view towards 2050. Royal HaskoningDHV and Wetlands International - Study on Mangrove Afforestation in the Mekong Delta This report by Royal HaskoningDHV and Wetlands International provides: (1) an analysis of international examples of mangrove afforestation and restoration, (2) an overview of the lessons learnt for nature-based solutions for coastal protection that have potential for the Mekong Delta and (3), an analysis of the environmental and socio-economic perspective of the Mekong Delta to increase coastal resilience. Smart Integrated Surface/Groundwater supply management A smart integrated surface-groundwater supply management methodology incorporates storage of surface water in the groundwater system through an Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) system. Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) is a water management technique for storing water in the groundwater system during the wet periods, to be used during dry periods. The goal of ASR is to reduce the stress on the (fresh) groundwater reserves and mitigate land subsidence in places where the demand for fresh water exceeds the sustainable supply of groundwater.

The Salt Doctors The Salt Doctors implemented a project on saline agriculture in Bangladesh. They work as a service provider to make crop cultivation under saline conditions not only possible but also profitable. There is the ambition to implement a similar project in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. Click here for the article.

SNV - Mangroves and Markets projcet SNV’s Mangroves and Markets (MAM) project worked with local government, the private sector and producers to establish sustainable shrimp farming practices while protecting and increasing mangrove coverage. Wetlands International & Royal HaskoningDHV - Mangrove restoration project Through the Partners for Water programme, Royal HaskoningDHV and Wetlands International support the Vietnamese Government and the Asian Development Bank in developing a large-scale mangrove restoration project to strengthen coastal climate resilience in 5 provinces of the Mekong Delta, applying state-of-the-art restoration techniques adapted to the local context. Freshwater Availability in the Mekong Delta (FAME) FAME is a collaborative, multiphase project focusing on scoping, piloting and providing upscaling advice to national partners in Vietnam on how and where to implement Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) systems. ASR systems would provide farm scale solutions aimed at addressing fresh water quality and availability issues being faced within the Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces of the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. MARIN - Improving inland waterway transport The PIB Vietnam, in which multiple Dutch companies participate, aims at improving the Vietnam inland waterway transport (IWT) sector by exchange of knowledge focusing at specific areas of the IWT sector. One of these areas concerns the concept design of ships. MARIN will share its knowledge in this area by assessing various ship concept designs on fuel consumption, manoeuvring at critical situations, safety of harbour manoeuvres and harbour logistics.

East-West Seeds - Increasing smallholders farmers' productivity The Farming the Future campaign aims to accelerate the global transition towards sustainable agriculture. East-West Seeds (EWS) cooperated with several partners in order to boost productivity of small-scale farmers. This is done by providing farmers with high-quality seeds. ASEAN5 Trade Mission Mekong Delta 2020 In 2020 from 1 to 4 December, the Mekong Delta Mission took place as part of the Virtual ASEAN5 Trade Mission. The Mekong Delta Mission formed a platform where Dutch and Vietnamese businesses and experts came together for sharing insights, innovative solutions, and business opportunities in the sectors of agriculture, water and circular economy.

A Dutch-Vietnamese knowledge partnership - promoting climate resilient nurseries A Dutch-Vietnamese knowledge partnership project to promote the development of a climate resilient nursery sector & value chains. This project introduces scalable water technology pilots for the aquaculture and horticulture sectors to develop climate-smart value chains. The project partners work with local governments and educational institutions to enhance capacity so that adaptations to cope with transformation in the MD can be accelerated at the local level.
